Team Building Case Study

EasyCruit by Lumesse – Team Building Session

The challenge

When global Talent Management specialist Lumesse launched its solution EasyCruit as a new business unit, they called upon the Rock & Roll Experience to help bring people together. A new team was being formed out of existing staff, and they wanted a fun event to gel the new team as part of a two day kick-off session.

The Rock & Roll Experience team worked within a restricted time (6 hours) and budget , using local meeting room space at Lumesse’s headquarters in Luton.

Rock & Roll Experience are used to corporate environments and our technology allow several bands to work in a unique space without any noise spilling out to surrounding offices. For the final performance, noise levels are far higher, but the disruption is short (About 5 minutes per song) and all the office can attend the performance!

How it worked

The fast paced event drove the team to learn an instrument, write and learn a song as a band, and perform it on stage to an audience. Non-musicians had to overcome self doubt and learn a brand new skill in an hour. They were then thrown together into bands with their new colleagues and tasked with rehearsing their song.

“It’s difficult to write lyrics, when you are not used to it, but the team really made it easier for us, and it’s incredible what we ended up doing!” says Kenneth Amundsen, Customer Success Manager for EasyCruit.

At the heart of the experience is one simple fact: As a band, playing together in a coordinated and harmonious fashion is more important than the individual level of each musician. Each band faces challenges, and these are not about playing the instruments. It’s really about communication within the team.

As Tobias Hareide, Head of Operations at EasyCruit puts it “It is crazy how this event drove us to talk to each other and break down barriers. The Rock’n Roll Experience team don’t do the work for you, they guide you through it, but if you want to deliver a good show at the end of the day you really have to work hard on communication.”

At the end of the afternoon, each band performed their song, and when a horde of colleagues came down to watch the performance, each and every one got up and gave it everything they had.

The result

“This event was really well organised and driven. It was a challenging exercise for some but huge fun!” says Shane King, Head of Marketing for EasyCruit. “I recommend the Rock & Roll experience to any group of people who really want to become one team. People came together barely knowing each other, and left as a unified team who had just met a challenge head on and succeeded.” – Thibaut Legendre, General Manager for EasyCruit.
