Drumming Workshops for Schools

We have been delivering drumming workshops for schools since long before we started offering these to corporate events.

We have presented drum workshops to hundreds of schools and colleges around the South East of England and London.

Since then we have also delivered events to many of the best known international companies but working with children is where our heart is.

The power of rhythm never fails to engage young people and the sessions are always high energy, huge fun and highly effective at bringing them together to work as a team.

Our workshops

Boomwhackers

Using coloured plastic tubes we create a mixture of rhythm and melody. Each tube creates a different pitch so the children quickly realise when we work together we can create something special. After a series of fun rhythmic games we end up performing the melody to a well known tune.

Junk Percussion

Following in the footsteps of hit musical ‘Stomp’ we create a high energy workshop using junk items. Working up through fun rhythmic games the children learn that they don’t need to spend lots of money to make music. Everyday junk items can sound just as good!

African Drumming

The primal power of African drumming is mesmerising and allowing the children to get hands on with real drums is always a magical experience. Here they learn the core techniques and rhythms as we take them through rhythmic games and build up to a final performance.

Samba Drumming

Nothing is quite as exciting as the Brazilian Samba. Once that groove starts it’s impossible not to get lost in it. This style of drumming uses simple hand commands. Once learnt the samba jam can start and the children watch the facilitator for those instructions. This brings the Rio carnival vibe into the school hall!

Dance Workshop

Our dance workshops are a big hit in schools. We use a number of styles from Michael Jackson’s Thriller, to street, jazz, African dance and tap. It’s great fun to teach basic steps then rehearse them up into a final dance performance.

Whole School Assemblies

Drums – journey of rhythm

We also deliver assemblies to the whole school to create a lasting impression in one hit that reaches all classes in one go. This creates more of an ‘event’ and allows us to have a big impact without disrupting the school timetable.

The Outcome
High energy, fun interactive session which gets kids excited about music and rhythm whilst delving into geography and history

How does it achieve that?
The drum kit was formed from items all over the world; Chinese tom toms, Turkish cymbals, Middle Eastern frame drums,
European snares, etc.

Using lots of live performance, audio and visual aids we chart how the drum kit came to be. It’s fully
interactive with kids exploring the answers and also getting on stage to jam.

At the end they will be excited about music but also have a deeper world
understanding of that history.

This assembly uses history, exploring different cultures, world geography and music.
