We did the guitar building workshop for 50 x 12-17 year olds and it was a huge success. We built 5 guitars. The workshop went on for just over two hours… All 3 guys were fabulous, would highly recommend the team!!!

Bringing International Students Together Through Music

We were asked to help a group of international students who were new to the country get to know each other, have fun and start forming friendships at the beginning of the school year. It was a challenging age group, with students arriving from different backgrounds and with very different interests. Our Guitar Build experience proved to be the perfect fit because it gave everyone a way to contribute, regardless of their interests or personality. Working in groups of around 10, the students decided for themselves how to divide up the roles and responsibilities within their teams.

The more engineering-minded students got hands-on building real, working electric guitars, while the more artistic students created the band’s identity, developing a band name, logo and debut album artwork. Others rewrote the lyrics to a well-known song and took on a range of other creative roles. By the end of the session, the students had created five fully working electric guitars, with some later donated to a local youth group and one kept by the school.

Every group also had the opportunity to perform their new song. We honestly expected very few students to volunteer, but every single group wanted to get up and perform. The energy was amazing, and it was fantastic to see students who had arrived looking apprehensive, transform into a group who were engaged, creative and working together as a team.
