Songs for Team Building Events

Which Songs for Team Building Events are most Effective?

People often ask us what the best songs for team building events are and our answer depends on a few different things. We have a large list of tried and tested songs that we use for our singing team building events so we thought we’d share some of them with you below.

The reason singing works so well for team building events, conference ice breakers and energisers is that it’s inherently uplifting so people feel good, they smile, they feel a shared sense of achievement. These are all results that people look for in a team building event and a singing team building session delivers that without having to force it. It just happens.

The event was amazing, brilliant and faultless. We could not have had a better experience. Every colleague I’ve seen today has thanked me for organising it and I’m so pleased that we could do this. It was simply the best team building experience this staff team has had in the 9 years I’ve worked here. Brilliant – thank you.” Joe and all the staff at INPUT Pain Management – St Thomas’ Hospital

So when we look for a song for a rock choir team building event we need to make sure the song choice is in line with that feel good element. So a few things you want to be careful of that might otherwise spoil the mood are:

  • Slow tempo
  • Depressing lyrics
  • Melancholic music

But with around 100 years of recorded music to choose from that still leaves us plenty of choice.

What else to consider?

We also have to look into the message of the song. We don’t want a song that might sound uplifting but actually carries a message which conflicts with the message that we are trying to instill. Sometimes we use a song that has a generic good message such as “I get by with a little help from my friends.” But other times we might use a song that has a specific message for the company or the event theme which fits perfectly.

In the video below you can see that we used the song ‘Breakfast at Tiffanys’ because the event was for the UK annual conference for famous jewelers Tiffany & co.

We also need to consider nationality. If we are presenting a session for a group with several nationalities then it’s no good using a song that was a cult hit just in the UK. A big part of people quickly buying into the event is recognising the song. So if we have an international audience we make sure the song choice has international appeal so everybody feels included and engages quickly with the event.

Of course our facilitators are experts at getting even the most staunch non-singers on board quickly, and clients often comment on how well we achieve that. One of the biggest concerns clients have before booking our rock and roll choir events are that some of the group won’t join in. That’s why it’s so important that we use only the best facilitators who quickly break down barriers and make sure people understand what is happening and how much fun they will have.
